The question of Italian capital illegally exported to Switzerland seems to be reaching a conclusion. According to the declarations of Economy Minister Fabrizio Saccomanni, on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum, an agreement with Switzerland is "close", even if there is not yet a date for the conclusion of the agreement.
The amnesty on capital held illegally in the Confederation by residents in Italy could bring Italy from 10 to 100 billion euros.
The new Italian legislation on the voluntary return of capital will not allow "any form of anonymity, it will not imply either an amnesty or a tax amnesty", specified the minister. The rules studied, however, will allow favorable "treatment", even with penalty reductions "for the taxpayer who collaborates with the tax authorities". On the contrary, "a tightening is foreseen for those who do not cooperate and who can then be discovered through, for example, the exchange of international information".
The minister added that Italy has "accelerated" the introduction of these rules, sometimes also called self-declaration or self-denunciation, in order to "have a clear Italian regulatory basis on which to then negotiate within the European Union or the OECD" and in the scope of the negotiations with Switzerland.
On the subject of privatizations, he said that “the process will start today in the Council of Ministers with the identification of two companies currently wholly owned by the State: Poste and Enav. But the program won't end with these things, it will cover a period of time that will be a couple of years”.
