Three pitfalls for Bersani: Casini, Vendola, Renzi

The centrist leader is tempted by a strictly proportional electoral reform with the PDL and the Lega – The Apulian governor presents the anti-Fornero referendum with Di Pietro – And the mayor of Florence leaves for the primaries with a Reagan slogan.

Three pitfalls for Bersani: Casini, Vendola, Renzi
In the speech with which he concluded the Democratic Party of Reggio Emilia, Pierluigi Bersani clearly and firmly reiterated his candidacy to lead the government that will have to emerge from the next elections. The scheme is simple: to aggregate the left (Pd, Sel and minor formations) through the primaries and then seek convergence with the moderates (represented above all by Casini). But being able to apply this strategy in the field will be far from easy. For three reasons.

The most complex is that which concerns the possibility of convergence with Pierferdinando Casini. The centrist leader clearly explained to Chianciano that he was aiming for a Monti bis. Which means that for now he will try to obtain a good electoral success in the center, presenting himself as the most convinced supporter of the results achieved by the technical government, and after the vote (with a robustly proportional system), he will decide whether to ally himself with Bersani or with that what remains of Berlusconi's right. A politically more than legitimate operation, but which should pass through an agreement between the PDL and the League on how to modify the current electoral law. Even excluding the Pd. In short, it would be the same majority that changed the Porcellum that approved the Calderoli law at the end of the penultimate legislature. As you can see what comes from Casini is a really dangerous pitfall for Bersani. Who reacted yesterday by explaining that the idea of a dry proportional system would be "a tsunami", but for the country and not only for the Democratic Party, given that it would "mathematically" lead to ungovernability.

But there are two other pitfalls for Bersani's journey towards Palazzo Chigi. And these come from the closest front, and even within the Democratic Party. Just yesterday Ferrero, Diliberto, Di Pietro and Vendola presented the questions to the Cassation for the referendum against the Fornero reforms, also approved with the (suffering and negotiated) vote of the Pd. It is now known that work, and in particular the changes made to article 18 of the Brodolini Statute, is a highly sensitive issue within the left and within the Democratic Party itself. It is no coincidence that Sergio Cofferati is pronounced in favor of the initiative by Di Pietro and his companions. But how will all this impact on the upcoming primaries of the Democratic Party? Which, as is well known, will not only Renzi but also Vendola contend for the leadership of Bersani?

Finally there is Renzi. Which, it is true, has more supporters outside the Democratic Party than inside. But he has also launched a very decisive campaign for the primaries, with strong media support. In the next few days he will present his program. for now he has let us know his slogan of him: "Now". The same with which Ronald Reagan, the president of the American Republican right, presented himself in the presidential elections. Particularly singular renzi chose this slogan, just after attending the Democratic Convention that in North Carolina, opened Obama's new race for the White House. It is said that Renzi's candidacy is not particularly strong, but certainly the style of the mayor of Florence who attacks all his party mates could acquire consistency if controversies and internal divisions continue in the Democratic Party (even Bindi does not rule out one of her candidacy in the primaries), which do not only concern the Renzi phenomenon.
