Transport: flurry of strikes ahead, trains and planes at risk on 13 and 15 July

It will be a hot week next in Italy and not only the expected peaks in temperatures, but also the arrival of new ones strikes in the field of transport.

On Thursday 13 July the protest will involve the staff of Trenitalia need Italo, while Saturday 15 July will be the turn of the ground staff of the airports, handling and check-in services, which will stop for eight hours, from 10 to 18, as the contract with the latter has expired for six years. July 13 stop of Trenitalia and Italo staff

13 will not be a lucky number for those traveling in train next Thursday. The trade unions of the category Filt-Cgil, Fit-Cisl, Uiltrasporti, Ugl Ferrovieri, Slm Fast Confsal and Orsa Ferrovie have proclaimed one national strike of the staff of Trenitalia and Italo Ntv from 3.00 on Thursday 13 July pm 2 on Friday 14 July. The Minister of Transport Matteo Salvini, however, has decided by authority to halve the timetable: the strike will therefore stop at 15 pm on Thursday and no longer at 2 on a Friday. The strike, he had warned Trenitalia on the Fsnews website, was intended to have a significant impact on railway traffic and lead to total and partial cancellations of Frecce, Intercity and Trenitalia regional trains. Now it will be less so even if the effects, in terms of cancellations and delays, may occur even earlier and extend beyond the time the strike ends. Taking into account the possible important repercussions on the service, Trenitalia invites all passengers to inquire before going to the station.

During the strike, the national journeys listed in the specific tables of the trains to be insured in the event of a strike will be guaranteed, as well as regional trains in the commuter slots (6.00-9.00 and 18.00-21.00), which can be consulted in the section Trains guaranteed in the event of a strike of Trenitalia website.

Matteo Salvini, reads a note from the ministry, “has decided to take this measure also in the light insurance, gained during the table convened at the Porta Pia dicastery and of which the minister stands as guarantor, of the immediate resumption of trade union negotiations on all the points object of the agitation“. "The injunction is a shameful, wrong and illegitimate initiative", replies the general secretary of Filt-Cgil Stefano Malorgio, explaining that "the proclamations of the strikes have been known to the Ministry of Transport for 34 days, in which nothing it was done to avoid them".

The reasons for the strike

The unions have indicated the motivations at the basis of the protest in the notice of proclamation of the strike sent to the Guarantee Commission on 22 June last, after the nothing done in the confrontation with the two companies.

The trade union organizations Filt Cgil, Fit Cisl, Uiltrasporti, Ugl Ferrovieri, Orsa Ferrovie and Fast Confsal have proclaimed one unitary strike in Trenitalia because of the critical issues not resolved in the union dispute. They require an adequate hiring plan, a reduction in workloads for crews, the strengthening of the maintenance sector, an improvement in the sales and assistance service for passengers, technological investments, opportunities for professional growth and training courses for all personnel. They also ask Trenitalia to quickly resolve the reported issues that penalize the company's workers, including the withdrawal of unilateral actions such as changes to work shift schedules, crew composition, ad personam allowances, regulatory overrides, changes to the excessive use of overtime work.

Staff strike Italian, scheduled for July 13, it was proclaimed because, according to the unions, "the necessary progress has not been found with respect to the resolution of the dispute". The parties remain "distant on several aspects", including the variable salary elements, the redefinition of the calculation of weekly working hours for crew personnel, and the modification of the summer vacation period. The economic proposal presented by the company is considered insufficient and the company has not shown itself willing to accept the union's requests.

15 July strike by airport ground staff

They will be there on Saturday 15th July disruption in air travel due to several strikes. The mobilization is due to non-renewal of the national contract which has now expired for six years. The protest comes "following the signing by some subjects of a totally unsatisfactory agreement for the pilots category and given the company's total closure to dialogue and confrontation".

The unions Filt Cgil, Fit-Cisl, Uiltrasporti and Ugl Ta have announced one eight-hour strike baggage handling and check-in staff. The ground staff strike will take place from 10.00 am to 18.00 pm.

During the day they will cross their arms from 12 to 16 also the pilots of Malta Air, which operates Ryanair flights and the company's pilots and flight attendants Vueling (from 10 to 18). Filt CGIL explained Vueling's strike with the company's lack of will to develop healthy and constructive industrial relations with the union most representative of the company's workers.
