Public transport, there is an agreement on the contract: the strike of April 1st cancelled

After a wait that lasted since December 2023, the 110 thousand workers of the local public transport can finally breathe a sigh of relief. The renewal of the national collective agreement, signed at Ministry of Transport, brings with it an economic increase: about 240 euros per month and a one-time bonus of 500 euros. The new contract, valid for the period 2024-2026, provides for an increase in the minimum wages and the introduction of a new remuneration element (Edr) of 40 euros per month for 14 months.

In addition, companies will have six months to define ways of managing working hours that promote a better conciliation between private and professional life, with the aim of making work more flexible. In the event of a lack of agreement, from 2026, 20 euros per month will be paid, which can be converted into paid leave. The agreement also benefits from the resources deriving from the increase in excise duties on petrol and diesel, destined for the national fund for public transport.

By signing the agreement, not only are salary expectations resolved, but also averts the strike planned for April 1st. The new contract, signed by the main unions in the sector, including Filt-Cgil, Fit-Cisl, Uiltrasporti, Faisa-Cisal and Ugl Autoferro, together with the employers' associations Agens, Asstra and Anav, was ratified with Deputy Minister Edoardo Rixi presiding over the decisive meeting.
