Thursday July 18 2024 it will be a difficult day for commuters in the main Italian cities, due to one national strike of local public transport that will last 4 hours. The abstention from work, agreed between various unions in the sector, aims to promote the renewal of the national contract for road and rail transport workers, currently blocked due to an impasse in negotiations with employers' associations.

Disruptions will involve bus, metro e tram in the main Italian cities, with specific time slots and differentiated protest methods. The scorching heat will make the atmosphere even more oppressive, putting a strain on Italian citizens who are called upon to find alternatives for their daily commute. Who is striking and why?

The trade unions Filter Cgil, Fit Cisl, Uiltransport, Faise Cisal e Ugl Fna they jointly decided to call the strike to guarantee decent working conditions and adequate wage increases, in line with the increase in the cost of living. The CGIL Transport Federation highlighted how the non-constructive attitude of the employers' associations interrupted the negotiations, underlining the urgency of renewing the contract to support the sustainable development of public transport, especially in view of upcoming events such as the Jubilee and the Winter Olympics.

A Milan, the ATM Group will stop all its five metro lines from 8am to 45pm. The service will also be affected in Bergamo, where the strike will start at 12pm and end at 45pm.

A Torino, the public transport system managed by GTT will be suspended from 18pm to 00pm for urban, suburban and subway transport, while extra-urban services will not be guaranteed from 22pm to 00pm.

A Venice, there will be an AVM/Actv strike from 19pm to 31pm.

The strike is also confirmed at GenoVa with the following methods: in the urban service, the traveling staff will not work from 11am to 45pm; the service of the urban ticket offices and Customer Service will be guaranteed until 15am. In the provincial service, traveling staff will not work from 45am to 11pm, while provincial ticket office staff will refrain from work from 45am to 10pm. On the Genoa Casella railway service, train staff will not be operational from 30am to 14pm.

A Bologna, the strike will affect passenger transport from 11:00 to 15:00, with limitations for urban and extra-urban transport. Trips will only be guaranteed until 10am from the central terminus.

A Florence, Autolinee Toscane will suffer delays or cancellations in the urban and extra-urban service from 18:00 pm to 22:00 pm. Furthermore, tramway workers and employees will strike from 9am to 30pm.

A Rome, trams, metro, buses, urban and extra-urban trains will be suspended from 8 to 30. The cars in line will finish the race and return to their depots during this period. Internal service workers, traffic assistants, ticket checkers and ticket office workers will also stop.

A NapoliHowever, the strike will take place from 11am to 30pm, with interruptions for trams, buses, trolleybuses, Metro Line 15 and the funicular. The last departures for surface lines will be 30 minutes before the start of the strike.

The local authorities have assured guarantee bands to limit the inconvenience of citizens, trying to minimize the impact of the strike on a weekday. However, it is advisable to take precautions and plan alternative routes for those who rely on public transport during protest hours.
