Snam e Politecnico di Milano, also through their own Foundation, have renewed today thecooperation agreement for business of Research dedicated to the role of gas system for security and energy transition of the country, with a specific focus on the potential of green molecules, such as hydrogen and biomethane, and on innovation. The agreement renews the partnership started in October 2020.

Collaboration on studies and projects in various sectors

The collaboration will focus on the development of studies and projects in various fields, mainly the infrastructure security and search for technologies for decarbonisation. New innovative models will be created for the development of biomethane to accelerate large-scale production, and new energy efficiency measures for the public administration, residential construction, tertiary and industrial sectors. in the field ofhydrogen feasibility studies will be carried out on the technologies that can be used in the various phases of the value chain, insights into the impact of hydrogen and natural gas mixtures on the existing network, and market analyzes on the potential uses of the clean energy vector in the industrial, residential and mobility sectors . Initiatives are also planned digitization research applied to gas infrastructure, sustainable finance, personnel training and talent attraction.

Snam, Venier: focus on research and technological innovation

"We are pleased to continue the collaboration with the Polytechnic of Milan. In these three years, many projects have been developed thanks to the pooling of challenging needs on critical innovation issues for Snam and the interdisciplinary skills of the academic world on which we have been able to draw. We will continue to work together on core projects and the Politecnico will support us in guiding the evolution of our infrastructures to guarantee energy security and at the same time enable and accelerate the energy transition. In this direction, Snam aims at research and technological innovation like fundamental tools for the enhancement of ours infrastructure, making them ever more resilient and intelligent, and for future decarbonisation goals, exploring and developing experimental solutions thanks to the contribution of transversal skills", declared Stefano Venier, CEO Snam.

“Renewing this agreement, signed three years ago between Snam and the Politecnico di Milano, is not a symbolic act. It is the strengthening of a key understanding in a context, that of energy transition, That is central to business needs, fundamental for the development of new skills, open to unexplored potential in terms of research. A theme at the heart of every policy redevelopment of the country. Sustainability is one of the priorities of our university, at the forefront of green issues and technologies for decarbonisation. Sharing strategies, objectives and resources with a large leading company in the sector such as Snam traces a clear growth path” he commented Donatella Sciuto, Rector of the Politecnico di Milano.
