Between torments and music, Schumann's last night

Sold out and convinced applause and open scene for "My sweetest Clara, Robert Schumann's Last Night“, staged at the Palazzo Savelli in Albano (Rome) in the national premiere and which will be repeated in Ariccia and then go on tour in other cities.

The show stages the last moments of the great composer and of the most romantic story of love and music that the nineteenth century has witnessed. In July 1856 Dr. Richardz, head physician of the clinic in which Schumann is hospitalized, sends a telegram to the musician's wife, Clara Wieck, inviting her to arrive as soon as possible, before her husband dies.

What were the most extravagant German composer and Europe's most famous pianist hiding under a feverish passion entrusted to rivers of ink? What did it cause the madness of Robert Schumann? Why did Clara abandon him in an asylum until her death?

Clara is played by Clare DiStefano, who with refined sensitivity embodies the lacerating contradictions of the most acclaimed pianist of the romantic era. Giordano Bonini it is Dr. Franz Richarz, head physician of the psychiatric clinic where Scumann was hospitalized, who clearly highlights the conflict between passion and cynicism. James Zito, who is also the author and director of the show, plays the role of Robert Schumann, who, now close to passing away, alternates painful glimmers of desperate lucidity in the dark of a terrifying madness.

The show is freely adapted from “The call of the angel” by Alessandro Zignani – Florestano Edizioni -, while the music that accompanies the show and underlines its most intense moments is entirely by Robert Schumann (carefully selected by maestro Maurizio D'Alessandro, it is entrusted to the execution of the Soloists of the Liszt Festival: MaurizioD'Alessandro, clarinet, Giovanni Borrelli, viola, Andrea Ferocious, piano). THE morals are by Giuseppe Avallone, i video contributions by Francesco Russomanno.

The show repeats ad Ariccia, Bernini theatre, next Saturday 23 January at 21 and Sunday 24 at 18 and then it will be staged in other cities. For information and reservations info@arteideaeventieservizi.it.
