19th and 20th century book collecting explodes between Sydney and New York

A period of great attention to book collecting, preferably from the XNUMXth and XNUMXth centuries, perhaps first editions and great writers - A new trend that involves the squares of New York and London, but also Sydney where the collections are auctioned of books that belonged to Raoul Simonson – An investment to watch.

19th and 20th century book collecting explodes between Sydney and New York

Auction session in Sydney entirely dedicated to a special collection of books “Bibliothèque littéraire Raoul Simonson – Albert et Monique Kies – Première partie”, which closed with a total of 3,946,532 EUR.

The auction involved the first part of the book collection belonging to Raoul Simonson (1896-1965), a well-known Belgian bookseller of the 20th century. The second part will be presented next December 2013 with books from the 20th century.

Among the authors, to name a few: Balzac, Banville, Baudelaire, Descardes, Diderot, Erasmus, Flaubert, Hugo, La Fontaine, La Rochefoucauld, Moliere, Rosseau, Nostradamus, Zola, for 343 books in the catalogue.

Definitely a new trend that not only involves men of letters and bibliophiles, but also collectors who aspire to first editions (perhaps with notes or an autograph dedication by the writer himself) of authors already present in their childhood memories, those who have not read Charles Baudelaire or Victor Hugo or the “Salomèby Oscar Wilde?
