Between Benetton and Di Maio head-on collision on Autostrade

Rags fly between the Benettons and the head of the Five Stars: the Government is on the verge of revoking the motorway concessions for the Venetian family or imposing a huge discount on tolls

Between Benetton and Di Maio head-on collision on Autostrade

Hard fight between the Benetton family and the shaky political boss of the Five Stars, Luigi Di Maio, who to prop up his seat shoots from zero at all possible targets. The first is the reform of the Salva-Stati fund (MES), on which the Government risks seriously breaking bones on the request for postponement, and the second is the halt to the renewal of motorway concessions to the Benettons.

IERI (Yesterday) Luciano Benetton, the patriarch of the Venetian dynasty, wrote a letter to the newspapers claiming that “Autostrade made a mistake but we are not criminals“. Benettons he discharged the blame of all the disasters that have recently occurred to Autostrade and the holding company that controls it (Atlantia) on a management that did not measure up despite having received full powers and with respect to which the Benetton family was the injured party.

But the entrepreneur from Veneto did not miss the opportunity to also attack the grillino leader Di Maio. “Whoever made a mistake must pay – wrote Benetton – but I find the hate campaign unleashed against our family is unacceptable, with accusations that came immediately and are still continuing, with vehemence from government officials, such as the honorable Di Maio, who points out the family as if it were colluded in having consciously decided to save on maintenance investments (of the highways). Basically like it was criminal. This is unacceptable."

Di Maio's reply was dry: “Surreal. Luciano Benetton distances himself from Autostrade. But does it seem possible to you?“. Other than reconciliation, between Benetton and Di Maio it is the most absolute frost.

At this point the Government starts to revoke the concession to Autostrade or, alternatively, to impose a very strong and lasting discount on the rates, if the revocation entails the danger of significant compensation paid by the State.
