Toyota returns first in sales: +22,6%, overtaking Volkswagen and GM

Toyota puts the arrow and overtakes General Motors. Indeed, in 2012, the Japanese automaker registered sales up 22,6% over the previous year, reaching 9,75 million cars and thus returning to first place in the ranking of car manufacturers.

Behind Toyota, whose numbers also include sales of the Lexus, Daihatsu (minicar) brands and Hino trucks, come GM (9,28 million cars in 2012) and Volkswagen (9,07 million), respectively first and second in the 2011 ranking, the year in which the Japanese group had paid, in terms of sales, for the terrifying consequences of the tsunami.

In Toyota's Japan sales rose 35,2% to 2,41 million units, while the increase abroad, thanks mainly to growth in the United States, was 19%, to 7,34 million. The goal for 2013 of the Japanese brand, which has also shown good stability in Europe, is 9,91 million cars.
