Toyota recalls 6,5 million cars: power window problems

Toyota has announced the recall of 6,5 million cars worldwide to "verify the correct operation of the window lifter control" citing the risk of "overheating" and "smoke coming out" from the circuit. In recent months, the Japanese auto giant had recalled about 10 million cars equipped with the defective airbags produced by Tanaka.

In particular, according to reports from Toyota, the driver's side power window control could short-circuit and cause some components to overheat and melt. "Melting the window switch could produce smoke and potentially lead to a fire," the automaker explains in an email.

The recalled models include the Yaris, Corolla, Camry and SUV Rav4 produced between 2005 and 2010. About 2,7 million of these were sold in North America and 1,2 million in Europe. Toyota adds that it has not received any reports of accidents or injuries related to this defect.
