Totogoverno: Zingaretti on the counterattack, Di Maio offside

Conte and Zingaretti displace Di Maio: the premier rejects Lega and Salvini again while Zingaretti suggests Roberto Fico for Palazzo Chigi

Totogoverno: Zingaretti on the counterattack, Di Maio offside

The government crisis remains in the balance and no one can say how it will close, but the secretary of the Democratic Party, Nicola Zingaretti, tries to reassemble and displace the political leader of the Five Stars, Luigi Di Maio, who is increasingly in difficulty and yesterday also overtaken by Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte, who put the tombstone on the alliance with Salvini's League.

Zingaretti made it known yesterday that the 10 programmatic points of the Five Stars can be discussed but that a sign of discontinuity in governance is needed. Translated: Conte and Di Maio cannot be at the top of the new government but the Democratic Party is willing to leave Palazzo Chigi to the grillini in the person of the President of the Chamber, Roberto Fico, Di Maio's internal opponent much appreciated by the base. The Pd would offer Conte the seat of interior minister in Salvini's place or that of European commissioner.

Now it's Di Maio's turn to come out of the corner, but the ambiguity shown with the League, which slyly tries to seduce him again by offering him the seat of Palazzo Chigi, is backfiring and yesterday the Biarritz speech by Prime Minister Conte, who rejected again Salvini and the League, has dramatically changed the mood of the Five Stars. The Grillini parliamentarians are overwhelmingly in favor of an agreement with the Democratic Party, even if Davide Casaleggio remains ambiguous and the pathetic Guevarista de' Noantri, Alessandro Di Battista, supports Lega hoping that we will go to the elections to return to Parliament.

However, time is running out and the President of the Republic wants to see the facts by Tuesday, unless he takes the path that leads first to a guarantee government and then to early elections. In the next 48 hours, the fate of the legislature will be played out but the chances of an agreement between Cinque Stelle and Pd have grown compared to Friday evening and it is not yet said that, in the event of an agreement, Giuseppe Conte himself cannot remain at Palazzo Chigi.
