The discontinuity that the Democratic Party claims to set up a government with the Five Stars concerns programs and policies but above all concerns men and symbolic figures. Even with all the diplomacy of the case, the secretary of the Pd Nicola Zingaretti aims for a large turnover of government formation which invests the characters who have most identified themselves in the Government with the League.
But the key point is above all one, or rather two. Giuseppe Conte can he stay at Palazzo Chigi or not? For the Five Stars it is now a flag but can the Democratic Party accept him at the helm of the new government? Difficult, even if not entirely impossible after the harsh speech that the premier delivered in the Senate against the Northern League leader Matteo Salvini.
But the other indigestible name for the Democratic Party is that of Luigi Di Maio: remaining in the Government is problematic but remaining in key ministries (Economic Development and Employment) is practically excluded.
The Five Stars will try to sweeten the requests of the Democratic Party by offering in exchange the new European commissioner, for whom the names of Gentiloni and Enrico Letta are mentioned, but it is the leading figures of the new government, if it ever arises, who count the most.
However, let us not forget an essential point: the negotiation on names will involve the political forces, as it has always been, but the Prime Minister chooses the Head of State: Sergio Mattarella he will listen to everyone but he will certainly not give up his prerogatives and will make his orientation think.
