Soon the French will start smiling again in Libya. The Total group is about to resume its activities in the North African country and even "new opportunities" are opening up for the transalpine oil giant. This was announced by the president of the company, Christophe de Margerie, who in an interview with the German newspaper Handelsblatt underlined how the company's technicians "have reason to think that the production sites are in good condition despite the conflict". For this reason "their exploitation should resume soon".
As for the launch of new businesses, it shouldn't be a question of a "transfer of contracts" from other companies to Total. "We could develop new activities on the liquid natural gas front - specified de Margerie - or help the Libyan national oil company to exploit the country's oil and gas reserves in a more aggressive and structured way". To this end, Total's number one has already contacted the President of the National Transitional Council to strengthen the alliance between Total and Libya. "The response was positive."
