Winter time is back: 90 million saved

In the night between Saturday 29 and Sunday 30 October, to be precise at 3 in the morning on Sunday, solar time returns, which since 27 had given way to legal time: so you have to put the hands back one hour (at the stroke of 3 it will, in fact, be 2). This practically means gaining an hour of sleep, exactly as summer time has instead been synonymous with economic gain: for the whole country, in terms of energy and according to Terna's calculations, the period with the extra hour of daylight per day it allowed savings of 573 million kilowatt hours (552 million kWh the figure for 2015), a value equal to the average annual electricity consumption of around 210 thousand families. In a nutshell: about 90 million euros.

From 2004 to 2016 – that is, from when Terna calculated this figure – the overall saving of the country was around 7 billion and 840 million kilowatt hours, equal to a value of around 1 billion and 170 million euros. Daylight saving time will be back in effect from March 26, 2017.
