Tlc, smartphone and tablet boom in Italy

A real sales boom for smartphones and tablets: in 2013 sales in Italy increased by 23 and 26 percent respectively. A black year for everything else as revenues from the telecommunications sector fell by 7%. This was stated in the latest Asstel "Report on the telecommunications chain" presented yesterday in Rome, which highlights how the sector has lost 9 billion euros in turnover in the last five years.

However, the take-off of new markets – from eCommerce to the entire new promising chain of digital payments and purchases – pushes operators to hook up to the new business while keeping the value of infrastructure investments high at 16% of revenues. The new market, valued at 10 billion according to the data reported by the Asstel Report, will grow "to 40 billion in 2016".
