Tiscali-Open Fiber: fiber agreement extended to 271 cities

Tiscali and Open Fiber have signed an agreement that will improve the internet services guaranteed to consumers, families and businesses, in 271 Italian cities.

In detail, the agreement plans to extend the strategic partnership relating to the fiber optic network that arrives directly at home (in technical jargon it is called FTTH, Fiber to the Home), which allows for maximum performance, with speeds up to 1 Gigabits per second. Open Fiber is in fact the company that is dealing with the creation of the FTTH network throughout the national territory.

The expansion of the agreement, already operational in over 50 cities and metropolitan areas - including Milan, Bologna, Turin, Cagliari, Perugia, Sassari, Naples, Palermo, Catania, Bari, Genoa, Venice, Padua, Monza, Syracuse, Ancona and Florence – will allow Tiscali to considerably extend the availability of its UltraFibra Giga services marketed up to now.

Speaking in numbers, the fiber optic network created by Open Fiber, which is now available in over 80 cities, will reach more than 150 cities by the end of the year, while in 2023 it will reach a total of 271 metropolitan areas. When fully operational, the partnership will cover 9,5 million property units.

“Tiscali takes this important opportunity to collaborate with Open Fiber at a time of great transformation in network technologies and internet access, confirming its willingness to be part of the country's effort to innovate and grow. Today more than ever we reaffirm our mission, to guarantee the right to access ultra-fast internet services, in a simple and reliable way”, says Renato Soru, CEO of Tiscali.

For Elisabetta Ripa, CEO of Open Fiber: “The extension of the agreement with Tiscali confirms the validity and solidity of the Open Fiber project which, with its model, guarantees all telecommunications operators, national or local, access to a entirely fiber optic network under fair and non-discriminatory conditions. There are now more than 80 operators who have chosen our infrastructure to offer their customers innovative services and true connectivity at 1 Giga per second".
