Tim, Sparkle wins two awards at MEF18

Sparkle, the TIM Group company dedicated to the development of international services and among the top ten global operators, received the Best MEF 3.0 Implementation Project 2018 and Silver Proof of Concept awards from the MEF during a ceremony held in Los Angeles as part of the event MEF18, held from 29 October to 2 November.

The Best MEF 3.0 Implementation Project 2018 award was assigned to a project developed by Sparkle in collaboration with Amartus, ECI Telecom, Equinix, Liquid Telecom, Spirent and Tata Communications and aimed at implementing the LSO architecture and APIs (Application Programming Interfaces) (Lifecycle Service Orchestration) across multiple domains, testing processes and automation and virtualization technology platforms, for the automated management of the lifecycle of MEF3.0 services in an intercontinental network context.

The Silver PoC Award instead rewarded the Proof of Concept presented by Sparkle with the operators CBCcom, PCCW Global, Tata Communications and with the technology suppliers Clear Blockchain Technologies and Cataworx and aimed at demonstrating the ability of TLC operators to introduce new generation services at record speed, thanks to the innovations introduced by blockchain technology and artificial intelligence.

The MEF PoC Awards honor Proofs of Concepts that demonstrate the ability to orchestrate dynamic services across automated, virtualized and interconnected networks in accordance with MEF 3.0 standards.

The PoC winners were selected by a panel of analysts from leading global research and consulting firms and were announced at a ceremony in Los Angeles, California on the evening of October 31.

“We are proud of these awards which confirm Sparkle's leading role in offering innovative services, enabled by SDN, NFV, LSO and Blockchain technologies and architectures” – says CEO Riccardo Delleani – “Sparkle continues to contribute in a instrumental in the development of standards that facilitate interoperability and improve the offer of end-to-end automated services”.

Sparkle has been an MEF member since 2011. Since then, the operator has been a pioneer and champion of the adoption of MEF guidelines, becoming the first service provider in the EMEA region to achieve CE 1.0 and CE 2.0 certifications for access services and The first European operator to receive MEF 100G Carrier Ethernet 2.0 certification for E-Line services (EPL & EVPL), also distinguishing itself as a leading promoter of the MEF LSO architecture since 2015 with the introduction of a Service Orchestrator for on-demand Carrier Ethernet services.

These awards follow up on Sparkle's 2017 accolades for Enterprise Application of the Year for Media, in 2016 forLSO Leadership Worldwide e Third Network Proof of Concept Innovation and those received in 2015 for Best Service Innovation-EMEA and Best Enterprise Application.
