Tim and Qualcoom: agreement on 5G and Business Innovation

The agreement is divided into three themes: use cases for advanced mobile services, with particular reference to 5G and IoT, innovative services based on Advanced Analytics, innovative products for mobile and fixed networks.

TIM and Qualcomm Technologies Inc., a subsidiary of Qualcomm Incorporated, have signed a cooperation agreement in the field of Business Innovation.

According to the note issued by the Tlc company, "through this new cooperation, Qualcomm Technologies and TIM aim to share a strategic vision on business development and advanced services enabled by new technologies - in particular by 5G - and test solutions innovations to accelerate their commercial introduction”.

The agreement is structured around three main themes:

  • use cases for advanced mobile services, with particular reference to the perspectives enabled by 5G technology and services related to the IoT,
  • innovative services based on Advanced Analytics that leverage the increase in data from 5G-enabled devices, networks, applications and services,
  • innovative products for mobile and fixed networks.

Chief Executive Officer.

“Qualcomm Technologies has a long-standing partnership with TIM and we are thrilled to have signed this agreement which will accelerate the rollout of 5G NR. Qualcomm Technologies plans to supply mobile test devices, based on the Qualcomm® Snapdragon™ X5 50G modem, for sub-GHz and mmW frequencies for 5G NR trials, and at the same time expects to work with TIM on a wide range of innovative implementations such as LTE-A, LTE IoT and Wi-Fi,” said Cristiano Amon, President, Qualcomm Incorporated.

“5G – explains the note – is designed to change the global mobile landscape and to address consumer demand for ultra-broadband connectivity and enable a complete and pervasive evolution of IoT applications and solutions for workplace security and publishes, in the healthcare sector, Cloud Robotics and in numerous Industry 4.0 use cases”.

TIM and Qualcomm Technologies are planning a 5G trial in the second half of 2018 to showcase the functionality and measure the performance of 5G NR (New Radio) technology.
