Tim invests 130 million for a new Data Center in Rome: Cloud enhancement and sustainability at the center

The new Data Center, operational by 2026, will expand TIM's capacity in the Cloud, integrating advanced technologies such as AI and quantum cryptography, with a focus on energy efficiency and reduced environmental impact

Tim invests 130 million for a new Data Center in Rome: Cloud enhancement and sustainability at the center

The Expansion of Data Center in Italy continues at a rapid pace. In this perspective, Tim announced a investment of approximately 130 million euros, aimed at strengthening its offering in the sector of Cloud, with the construction of a new data center latest generation. The project is part of a broader strategy to expand Tim Enterprise's infrastructure network, designed to meet growing demand from businesses and public administration.

The data center market continues to grow, with a value that is expected to reach $418 billion by 2030. However, one crucial aspect that is emerging is energy consumption. According to the International Energy Agency, AI data centers will require 90 trillion watt-hours of electricity by 2026, an exponential increase from the energy used in 2022.

A new Data Center in Rome: operational by 2026

The new Data Center will be built near Rome, with the aim of being operational by the end of 2026. It will not be just an addition to the existing network, but a real expansion that will bring the overall capacity of the group to well 125 megawatts, an increase of 25 MW compared to the current 100 MW. This significant increase will allow to meet the growing demand for space for Cloud and colocation solutions, while maintaining the highest standards of efficiency and security.

It's not just about size. The new Data Center will be designed with the most modern standards of sustainability ed energy efficiency, in order to meet the needs of large companies and the Public Administration. Furthermore, it will be interconnected to Tim's high-speed photonic network, which already connects the Group's other Data Centers. This network guarantees a low-latency connection and ultra-fast speed, with direct interconnection to the Cloud regions of global hyperscalers such as Amazon Web Services, Google Cloud and Microsoft Azure.

Innovation and safety at the heart of the project

The new Data Center will also be equipped with technologies Advanced for the 'Artificial intelligence. In fact, inside it there will be space for high-performance graphics processing units (GPU), essential for AI applications. Not only that, the structure will also be set up for the use of devices quantum cryptography, a cutting-edge technology that will guarantee maximum of your digital ecosystem. in digital communications. With a high level of security (Rating 4), the system will thus respond to the needs of protection of sensitive data, a fundamental aspect for companies and public institutions that rely on these services.

From the point of view Environmental Sustainability, the system will be equipped with rainwater recovery systems, minimizing the use of potable water. In addition, it is expected that approximately 88% of waste generated during the construction phase of the Data Center Recycled.
