Tim: Fast internet in remote areas, reaching 2 out of 3 households

In the last five months, the company led by Luigi Gubitosi has wired over 2.000 Municipalities in the so-called white areas, i.e. rural or low-density areas, with ultra-broadband.

Tim: Fast internet in remote areas, reaching 2 out of 3 households

Tim accelerates on the optical fiber and brings ultra-broadband to two-thirds of households residing in the so-called "white areas", covering over 5 municipalities in about 2.000 months. Thanks to this strong infrastructural drive, supported with a view to giving a concrete response to the growing connectivity needs mainly in rural areas or areas with a low population density of the country, approximately two thirds (65%) of families residing in these areas and using the landlines are now being served by super-fast connections.

The intensification of cabling programs and the upgrading of the network that the company has implemented since the beginning of March has allowed the continuation of all activities during the lockdown, in particular smart working and online teaching, and to manage optimal the traffic peaks that occurred in this phase. Thanks to these interventions, Tim's optical fiber covers over 86% of households. In particular, this action made it possible, in a time span of a few months, to achieve a significant result for overcoming the digital divide in the country that TIM wants to bridge by 2021.

Tim explains in a note that he will continue to give a strong boost to his cabling programs in the coming months, bringing fiber to 90% of households nationwide by December. In particular, the municipalities that will be reached by the plan will number over 5.000, many of them in the "white areas", i.e. 74% of families residing in those areas and using the fixed network.

“The country's new fiber coverage goal achieved today – he commented Luigi Gubitosi, Chief Executive Officer of Tim – thanks to the clear will of our Group and the skills of our technicians who have achieved results in favor of the country in record time. We will continue on this path in the interest of citizens, customers and institutions with the aim of definitively closing the digital divide in our country and we will continue with the Operation Risorgimento Digitale project to help close the gap in digital skills as well".
