Tim, optical fiber reaches 2.500 Municipalities

Tim continues his work covering the Italian territory with the super-fast Internet network. In August alone, the company extended the fiber optic network to another 500 municipalities, especially in the so-called white areas, i.e. the most remote and isolated areas of the country. In this case it is an FTTC connection (i.e Fiber To The Cabinet, which unlike FTTH – Fiber To The Home doesn't get home). Thanks to this further infrastructural boost, there have become over 2.500 Municipalities which, over a period of just six months, benefited from interventions for ultra-broadband carried out by Tim with the aim of extending to all Italians the possibility of working, surfing at high speed and using TV and entertainment services.

The intensification of cabling programs and the upgrading of the network that the company has implemented since the beginning of March has made it possible to give a concrete response to growing connectivity needs mainly in rural or low-density areas of the country, as well as guaranteeing the continuation of all activities such as smart working and online teaching. This action made it possible to achieve, in a time span of a few months, a significant result for overcoming the digital divide in the country, which Tim said he wants to fill in by 2021.

The company led by Luigi Gubitosi will also continue to boost its cabling programs in the coming months, bringing fiber to 90% of households nationwide by December. In particular, the Municipalities that will be reached by the plan will number over 5.000, many of which are once again in the "white areas", i.e. 74% of families residing in those areas and using the fixed network.
