Tim explores network separation and prepares Vivendi-Mediaset peace

The Board of Directors starts examining the new Business Plan and approves the preliminary 2018 budget, confirming the objectives - On the table the hypothesis of network separation - Tim buys content from Mediaset and paves the way for the Vivendi-Biscione agreement.

Tim's Board of Directors met yesterday to discuss the guidelines of the 2018-2020 Business Plan and approve the preliminary budget for next year.

The plan, reads a note, will focus on value creation to maximize convergence and scalable bundled offers, making the most of the extension of Tim's ultra broadband networks in fiber and LTE. It will be based on greater and better use of data analytics and digitalisation, which will help improve efficiency by enabling a higher quality of customer service, produce higher margins and increase cash generation.

In this context, the CEO of Tim presented an overview of the regulatory scenario, taking into account the points of view of the Government and the sector authorities.

THE SEPARATION OF THE TIM NETWORK

The presentation dealt with, among other topics, the different models of separation of the fixed access network, comparing them with other international experiences. In the coming months, management will continue to examine the various hypotheses to establish whether the network separation is necessary to respond to institutional inputs and to create value.

“By approving a preliminary budget three months in advance we indicate clear plans and objectives from the beginning of 2018, thus allowing the company to launch its ambitious strategy with the aim of achieving an improved and sustainable business model”, underlined the Tim's CEO, Amos Genish.

THE TIM-MEDIASET AGREEMENT

In addition, the Board of Tim authorized by majority to continue negotiations to finalize a new agreement with the Mediaset group for the purchase of content.

One of the main elements of the 2018-2020 strategic plan is to propose a convergent offer that includes video content within its landline and mobile offers.

With this in mind, the Board has authorized the management by majority vote to continue the negotiations and close a new and complete multi-year agreement with the Mediaset group to make films, TV series and sporting news from the Biscione brand available to Tim customers.

The agreement will be active starting from 2018 on linear and on-demand channels and will enrich the Tim Vision platform. Customers will be able to access content from decoders, smart-TVs, web and mobile apps. The company is negotiating similar agreements with other market players.

On the sidelines of this agreement, the Board authorized the management to negotiate with Mediaset the purchase of Premium rights relating to the second leg matches of the 2017/2018 Seria A championship, the 2018 UEFA Champions League matches and other football events international offered by Premium. This agreement will replace the one currently in place between Tim and Mediaset.
