Tim and Infratel: agreement on ultra-broadband in 8 Regions

Tim and Infratel have signed an agreement that will allow the company led by Luigi Gubitosi to "turn on" the access infrastructures of the public fiber optic network built by Infratel in 8 Regions (Abruzzo, Sardinia, Tuscany, Puglia, Calabria, Lazio, Lombardy and Marche). In total there are about 600 Municipalities involved in the intervention with the direct model.

The agreement will make it possible to speed up the development of ultrabroadband networks in "market failure" areas not subject to tenders in the past, creating "a program of activities, to be shared with the Regions and Municipalities affected by the intervention, preparing a road map of activations by TIM following the delivery of the optical fiber by Infratel and marked by certain dates regarding the activation of services to citizens, the public administration and companies of those territories”, explain the two companies in a note.

Furthermore, on the basis of the provisions, Tim will purchase dark fiber infrastructures created by Infratel and will use them to bring ultra-broadband to the municipalities identified by the project.

"The agreement - specifies the note - is based on fifteen-year rights of use and is part of the "Framework Agreement for the granting of rights of use on optical fiber and for the supply of ancillary services" signed between TIM and Infratel in November 2018”.

“The MiSE expresses its satisfaction with the signing of an agreement which allows an operator to activate ultra-broadband services, where the public fiber financed entirely by the State has been placed. Citizens and businesses will be able to enjoy the benefits of high speed. The intervention, which affects more than 1 million residents in the 600 Municipalities, resolves an age-old situation”, declared Marco Bellezza, Legal Advisor for Communications and Digital Innovation to Minister Luigi Di Maio.
