During a hearing in Parliament Luigi Di Maio, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economic Development and Employment explained the programmatic guidelines on telecommunications and digital matters and on the Tim case he confirmed the launch of the investigation into the spin-off of the fixed network of Telecom Italia: “Let's look at the Open Fiber model, but for the unbundling of the network we need to understand what is meant, we are talking about a corporate asset. What we did was start an in-depth study to try to understand what they and we as a state mean. Our goal is to tackle the dossier to ensure national security,” explained the Minister.

The minister also stated: “We look with interest at initiatives aimed at creating a single network company on the 'wholesale only' model of Open Fiber capable of allowing operators to compete in the area of ​​services".

Furthermore, with regard to the national strategy relating to the tender for the assignment of 5G frequencies, the deputy prime minister said that it will be closed in September 2018 "in order to account for the revenues by the end of the year". The estimated revenues are equal to approximately 2,5 billion. "In relation to the procedure for assigning frequencies, as outlined at a Community and national level, the Ministry will publish the national roadmap in the coming days, ensuring compliance with the deadline of 2022", concluded Di Maio.
