Tim: the first phase of the Pnrr tenders for ultrabroadband connections and 5G infrastructure concluded

Il TIM group closed the first phase of the Plans relating to the “Italia 1 Giga” and “5G backhauling” tenders as part of the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR). This was communicated by the group, specifying in a press release that the first phase of the infrastructural intervention plan of the Italia 1 Giga tender ended with the creation of ultra-broadband links for over 14.100 street numbers in 90 Italian Municipalities included in the won lots. Furthermore, in 95 Municipalities belonging to the lots that TIM was awarded in the "5G Backhauling" tender, the necessary works were carried out to activate the 5G mobile network infrastructures for the supply of advanced services in over 150 sites.

The Italia 1 Giga Plan and the Backhauling Plan: the value of the orders

With reference to the "Italia 1 Giga" Plan, the grouping made up of TIM and FiberCop was awarded 7 of the 15 lots tendered by Infratel Italia, For a worth over 1,6 billion euros in funding, to which are added approximately 700 million euros of direct investment by the TIM Group. The regions concerned are Piedmont, Val d'Aosta, Liguria, Abruzzo, Molise, Sardinia, Umbria, Marche, Calabria and Basilicata, plus the autonomous provinces of Trento and Bolzano.

TIM, moreover, as sole bidder of the Backhauling Plan for the fiber binding of the 5G mobile radio sites, it is bringing the infrastructure necessary to create a more performing mobile network to the 6 won lots (which concern the entire national territory). Public funding corresponds to 700 million euro, to which are added 100 million euros of direct investment.

The tenders financed by the Pnrr: "An important result for Tim"

“The completion of the first phase envisaged by both tenders financed by the PNRR – he underlines Elisabetta Romano, Chief Network, Operations & Wholesale Officer of TIM – represents an important step in the country's digitization process. We are particularly proud to make our skills available to help achieve the objectives set for the construction of new network infrastructures, fixed and mobile. For TIM – the main Italian operator that has won the highest number of tenders envisaged by the PNRR – it is the achievement of an important result obtained thanks to the collaboration with Infratel Italia”.

TIM, through FiberCop, is also continuing its journey to create an ultrabroadband network throughout the country. FiberCop already today guarantees coverage of over 94% of fixed lines through FTTC and FTTH technologies and will continue to develop FTTH coverage, with connection speeds of up to 10 Gigabits, with the aim of reaching approximately 60% of the real estate units on national basis.
