Tim, quantum computing for 5G: it is the first Tlc in Europe

Tim is the first telecommunications operator in Europe to use live network quantum computing algorithms (quantum computing) in the planning of its next generation mobile networks.

“Quantum computers – explains the company in a note – are based on qubits, fundamental information units similar to the classical bits, which, by exploiting the principles of quantum mechanics, are able to process complex problems and large-scale calculations with extremely fast execution times. smaller than traditional computers. The computational capabilities of quantum computers make it possible to deal with problems which, due to their complexity, are beyond the reach of traditional computers".

What are the benefits for customers? This technology reduces the execution time of network optimization processes, ensuring a better experience for end customers. In detail, customers will be able to count on a better quality of the VoLte service (voice over LTE), and on greater continuity in the mobility phase between the coverage areas of different cells. Tim has optimized the planning of the radio cells to ensure performing and reliable mobile services.

This technology has already been used to solve optimization problems in the financial, automotive and chemical fields. It is the first time that it is used on telecommunications networks and, in detail, for the planning of 4.5G and 5G network parameters, obtaining a greater speed of execution (with a factor of 10x) compared to traditional optimization methods.

“Since computational speed is expected to further improve with the evolution of quantum computer technology, being able to configure the network in real time is a fundamental aspect to guarantee customers a better mobile service,” concludes Tim.
