Tim announces the carbon neutrality of the group's websites

Tim neutralizes 900 tons of greenhouse gas equivalents thanks to two projects, one of which in Brazil and the other in Italy. The telephone group made it known, specifying that it had reset, in this way, the emissions CO2 generated in 2021 by the commercial and institutional sites of Tim and the companies of the group, among which he mentions Noovle, Olivetti, Sparkle, Telsy, Kena Mobile and FiberCop.

The project in Brazil

In Brazil, where Alberto Mario Griselli was recently appointed as the new managing director, the group participates in the protection of over 28 hectares of Amazon forest. The operation passes through support to Maìsa REDD+, "a project - explains the note - which promotes the conservation of the Amazon rainforest in Brazil, through the monitoring of illegal deforestation and the involvement of local populations to preserve the biodiversity of flora and fauna ”.

Projects in Italy

In Italy, Tim will instead support two forest requalification projects. The first in Milan's North Park, where it will plant 80 new trees in addition to last year's 70 which, over an average life cycle of thirty years, will contribute to the absorption of around 50 tons of CO2, equivalent to the emissions of around 500 refrigerators in operation for one year. The second in Umbria, where it will support a project for the management of the "Città della Pieve-Piegaro Forest".

Initiatives to combat climate change

Tim's stated goal is to achieve carbon neutrality by 2030. For this reason, he has included the neutralization of website emissions in his sustainability strategy. Among the other initiatives in the pipeline along this line, it is worth mentioning that the group aims to enrich the offer of eco-sustainable products and services with 15% green smartphones. By 2025 energy will be used exclusively from renewable sources, eliminating indirect emissions and improving eco-efficiency by 50% thanks also to the use of fiber optics and 5G.

To evaluate the emissions of the websites, Tim used the CO2web methodology developed by Rete Clima, a non-profit organization specialized in the promotion of sustainability and verified by the ICMQ body.
