Thomson Reuters announces 3.200 job cuts

Thomson Reuters to cut 3.200 jobs worldwide. In percentage terms, this is 12 percent of its workforce. The decision was announced to investors on Tuesday 4 December by the Canadian group itself.

At the root of the layoffs, the company says, there is a desire to reduce costs and increase the company's growth margins.

In addition to cutting 3.200 jobs, Thomson Reuters has announced plans to close 30 percent of the 133 offices it has around the world. In all likelihood the new employment policy will also concern the Reuters News news agency which accounts for about 6% of the group's revenues.

We recall that last November 12 and 13, the journalists of Reuters Italia called a two-day strike in order to protest against the launch by Reuters News & Media Italia of a collective dismissal procedure for 16 journalists, equal to more of a third of the Italian editorial staff.

"Incomprehensible - explained the assembly of journalists in a statement - also the motivation of the company, according to which the layoffs are necessary in the framework of a plan to reorganize and improve the efficiency of the structure".
