The Italian Medicines Agency (AIFA) is time consuming: the third dose of the vaccine anti-Covid it will be possible to start from the fifth month after the second. Previously, the deadline was six months, the threshold beyond which vaccination coverage begins to decline. The decision, the experts explain, was taken with a view to maximum precaution, considered the recovery of the pandemic curve and the increased circulation of the virus. The measure goes into effect tomorrow.
Stocks of vaccines they are not a problem: eight million doses are already available and another 8,6 million Pfizer and Moderna vials are on the way. In less than a year, more than 101 million doses have been delivered to Italy.
As of November 22, 16 million people from 40 years onwards they can book the third dose. The green light for vaccinating children should also arrive by the end of the month between 5 and 11 years, which are more than three million.
Instead, that part of the country continues to remain uncovered – approx 7 million people – who has so far chosen not to even start the vaccination cycle, in the scientifically erroneous belief that inoculation is more dangerous than the disease. It is possible that at least some of these people will choose to get vaccinated in the coming weeks, as the government is about to introduce new restrictions only for no-vaxes.
The Region most at risk is the Friuli Venezia Giulia, who on Monday passed all the parameters for passing into the yellow zone. In the province of Bolzano infections and hospitalizations are high, while the percentage of vaccinated people is particularly low, about 10% less than the Italian average. So they close discos and dance halls. In the bars it will be possible to eat at a table with a maximum of four diners until 18 pm. In 20 Municipalities the situation is even more worrying: only for them does the president Arno Kompatscher trigger the curfew from 8 in the evening to 5 in the morning.
