Turin, Piedmont, its institutional headquarters will host "Planet Week", the sustainability event organized by the Ministry of the Environment, World Bank on climate change, "Connect4Climate", scheduled by 20 28 to April. Companies and organizations such as Enel, Italgas, Iveco, National Packaging Consortium, Chamber of Commerce are some of the announced partners. Over 60 events will be held during the week where we will talk about climate, energy, sustainable development, mobility and much more. It will be the preview of G7 Climate, Energy and Environment, which will take place from 28 to 30 April at the Reggia di Venaria.
The government is committed to doing big things, but it is not yet clear whether it wants to present itself to the world as a simple interlocutor or as the protagonist of ambitious projects. One of the most obvious delays is represented by Climate Plan (Pniec) not yet implemented. Hearings are currently underway in the Chamber of Deputies, during which Agostino Re Rebaudengo, president of Elettricità Futura, said that we need "greater concreteness in providing hypotheses for future actions, in addition to those in the most recent decrees and resolutions, in order to achieve the 2030 targets". But the Environment Minister himself told parliamentarians in another hearing that he is "working on the drafting of a Consolidated Law on procedural simplifications for renewables". A not beautiful picture: with public and private investments at a standstill, authorizations blocked, energy communities just starting up, hydrogeological structure in pieces.
On too many occasions we have had the impression that climate and environmental objectives are designed by the government on paper, without adequately involving companies and workers, or worse still, that actions are fragmented between ineffective ministries and bureaucratic apparatuses. Is this the way we want to present ourselves to the world? Like a replay of our last participation in Cop 28.
Untied knots
What do you do at such flashy events, like those coming up where the host Environment Minister has to spread positive messages? It exhibits the best optimism. “The involvement of the many expressions of Italian society constitutes the essential basis of every environmental and climate objective that we are committed to achieving at an institutional level with our G7” reads the minister's statement Piquet Fratin. The knots are still tied, we'll see what happens.
During Planet Week, ideas are expected to emerge that involve young people, businesses and the associative world, all integrated with each other. Earth Day and Interreligious Dialogue on Peace and Environment Day will be celebrated on April 22. This event will attract representatives from over 20 countries and the private sector to discuss climate change, with professors from the Polytechnic of Turin presiding over the proceedings. Fortunately, we have excellence in these fields who are actively engaging.
There will then be a focus on new technologies, the energies of the future and adaptation policies, with a particular involvement of young people as agents of change. In Biella, on April 24th the Pistoletto Foundation is organizing a Session on art, fashion and sustainability. All for a parterre of competent, passionate and sensitive people climate change. It is quite unlikely that we will see a dynamic transformation from the government of the country that is the rotating president of the G7.
