Thales Alenia Space builds the new Eutelsat satellite

Thales Alenia Space, a joint venture between Thales (67%) and Leonardo (33%), has signed an agreement with Eutelsat for the acquisition of an order relating to the production of Eutelsat 10B, an all-electric satellite which will guarantee connectivity mainly to aircraft and ships. The total value of the program amounts to 300 million euros.

The function of the satellite is to ensure continuity of broadcasting of the television channels of its predecessor 10° and to provide connectivity services (internet) on board planes and ships thanks to two innovative payloads (payloads).

The Eutelsat 10B satellite is based on Thales Alenia Space's Spacebus Neo product line and will be used for high performance service missions in Europe, the Mediterranean Basin, the Middle East as well as over the Atlantic Ocean, Africa and the Indian Ocean. The two satellite payloads will provide among other things C and Ku-band internet services on Eutelsat 10A.

An integrated fifth generation FlexTM VHTS very high performance Thales Alenia Space processor will be the key element of the payload, which will allow highly flexible performance and efficiency of transmission capacity and bandwidth.

“EUTELSAT 10B is the 28th satellite ordered from Thales Alenia Space by Eutelsat, the 6th Thales Alenia Space satellite based on the Spacebus NEO product line and the 4th to carry a fifth generation transparent digital processor for a fully digital" - said Jean-Loïc Galle, CEO of Thales Alenia Space - "I would like to thank Eutelsat for its long-standing trust and share this success with the French and European Space Agencies (CNES and ESA), whose contribution to development programs it has been essential to meet the needs of today's market and customers.”
