Thailand, the smartphone-mania breaks out

Thailand's smartphone and tablet market is expected to grow 30% to 70 billion baht this year thanks to the growing popularity of 2G and 3G smartphones. Jaymart, a group active in the sale of mobile phones, believes the average price of cheaper smartphones will drop from 3.900 baht last year to 250 baht in a year characterized by fierce competition. Jaymart chief executive Adisak Sukumvitaya said the company will spend 60 million baht on opening 280 new outlets bringing the total retail network to XNUMX stores.

"The sale of mobile phones will reach 20 million units this year, of which 12 million will be represented by smartphones" added the chief executive of Jaymart, arguing that the most successful products will be those in the range between 6 and 9 baht. Jaymart aims to sell 1,5 million cell phones in 2013, up from 1,1 million a year ago. Smartphones will contribute 70% of Jaymart's total sales, up from 60% in 2012.
