Honey, La Via's new general manager

Almost four months after the appointment of Vittorio Grilli as deputy minister of the Ministry of Economy the new director general arrives at the Treasury. The Council of Ministers has appointed, in the office held so far by Grilli himself, Vincenzo La Via, current financial director of the World Bank.

La Via is not new to via Venti Settembre: previously, between 1994 and 2000, he was director of the public debt (he was the predecessor of Maria Cannata). These were the years in which the Treasury was busy reducing the cost of debt, increasing the capacity to resist shocks on interest rates and preparing for entry into the euro.

As the new general manager of the ministry, La Via - explains a note from the government - is responsible for key processes to support the elaboration and implementation of the government's economic and financial policy choices, both nationally and internationally. The senior World Bank official would have had the direct support of Prime Minister and Economy Minister Mario Monti.
