Tesla: electric SUV and landing in Europe

A few days after the launch of the Model X electric SUV, the Californian energy company is setting up a plant for the construction of its electric cars in Europe.

Tesla: electric SUV and landing in Europe

"The construction capacity of the plant in California is still important, but we plan to launch production in Europe": announced the CEO of Tesla, Elon Musk: the company he leads is considering a plant for the construction of its electric cars in Europe. He said this at the end of a meeting with the government of Flanders, specifying that the Flemish area of Belgium "is certainly part of the Top 5 list" of possible locations for the factory. The mayor of Antwerp and leader of the Flemish nationalist party, Bart De Wever, referring to the Volkswagen scandal, for his part stated – as reported by the Belgian Agency – that "this story demonstrates the limits of development of diesel and petrol engines, therefore we cannot expect much progress in the field of fossil energies”.

Obviously the moment is right for Tesla, with the diesel engine scandal grabbing the front pages of newspapers and tumbling stock markets around the world. However, Musk said he was cautious about this, judging what happened with diesel as "obviously negative" but re-launching the real objective that, in his opinion, the industry must set itself, namely the reduction of CO2 emissions.

Sul Nasdaq the stock of the Palo Alto company held up and indeed, after a sharp drop in recent months, it is now trading at 263 dollars per share, not far from the all-time high of 280. And the days to come will be particularly intense: on 29 September the much announced crossover Model X. From what anticipated by Musk himself it will be a high-end model, even higher than the Model S. There is talk of a price starting from 130 thousand dollars. There will be an option called "excessive speed" (adding another $10) that will allow the car to go from 0 to 100 km/h in 3,2 seconds, versus 3,8 for the base model.
