Third pole goodbye: between Iv and Action is divorce. Renzi: "Own goal by Calenda" who replies: "Iv doesn't want the single party"

Incurable rift between Renzi and Calenda: the single party of the Third Pole will not take place even if for now the parliamentarians remain in the same groups – Strategic and personality disagreements between the two leaders

Third pole goodbye: between Iv and Action is divorce. Renzi: "Own goal by Calenda" who replies: "Iv doesn't want the single party"

The break between Carlo Calenda and Matteo Renzi was consumed with mutual exchanges of accusations. The Third Pole will not take place. The divorce between the two leaders of Action and Italia Viva is now official, after the hidden tensions that have emerged in recent days.

Third pole goodbye: the exchange of accusations between Calenda and Renzi

«We won't be able to create a single party because Renzi doesn't want to. He wants to keep Iv's money and party. But you cannot give birth to three parties from two parties. It gets ridiculous." With these words Carlo Calenda ends the arm wrestling. «Inexplicable controversies – is the reply of Matteo Renzi -. Action filed a paper, we are fine with minor changes. The old parties are dissolved with the election of the secretary of the single party. If Calenda agrees, we sign. If he has changed his mind, we acknowledge it. But I don't see why we should stop being Leopolda at a time when politics must be defended from populism and sovereignty". At stake is the question of funding: the 2×1000 intended for political forces, to be donated within the year to the new single party to prepare for the race for the Europeans, which, however, the president of Italia viva does not want to give up to allocate it to the Leopolda, already set for next March. Two issues that contributed to the divorce. But in the background there is above all a difference in strategic vision and personality between the two leaders. Thus ends the attempt to form a liberal and reformist Third Pole, everyone proceeds alone with exchanges of accusations that continue throughout the day on Thursday afternoon.

The divorce between IV and Action: what to do with parliamentary groups

The dilemma of what to do now remains parliamentary groups. If the federation between Action and Iv were to dissolve, only Iv would have the hope of setting up an autonomous one in the Senate, where six elected are enough and Renzi has five for now. The goal of 20 in the Chamber is instead unattainable. So the compromise, up to the counter-order, is to save what can be saved: it means avoiding everyone ending up in the Misto, losing funds and personnel. Which could lead to the dream of mending relationships when things have calmed down.
