“The progressive increase in the elderly population and the observation of its continuous growth in the community represents one of the most critical socio-economic phenomena of our times. Italy is among the first countries in the world for life expectancy, but not for life expectancy in good health. From this point of view, therefore, it is necessary to promote a 'cultural change', where the elderly, which by definition is constantly evolving, is considered under its positive aspects”. This was written in a note by Ernesto Auci, deputy of Civic Choice and president of FIRSTonline, who will present a motion on the "Active Third Age" on Wednesday 20 September, at 11.30, in the Press Room of the Chamber of Deputies.
"For this reason - continues the note - I have presented a motion on the 'Active Third Age' which commits the Government, among other things, to taking initiatives to enhance the employment aspect, above all in the context of activities linked to the artisan dimension of the made in Italy. Furthermore, tools could be put in place to facilitate companies to make use of the collaboration of elderly people during their production processes, making sure that a company resorts to collaboration for free, through forms of 'expense reimbursement'”, concludes Auci.
“The main objective should be to shift attention to considering the elderly as a user of assistance services and interventions, to the elderly as a subject with experience, skills, practical and theoretical skills, history and wisdom. The use of active senior citizens for the accumulation and transfer of know-how can, for example, be implemented through the systematic use of senior citizens in mentoring and tutoring activities for new hires”, concludes Auci.
