Earthquake: the viability on roads and railways

The earthquake that hit part of central Italy last night, destroying entire countries and causing the death of over 240 people, caused significant damage also to the road networksignificantly hampering rescue operations. Consequently, authorities and volunteers are asking citizens to do not go to the areas affected by the earthquake – unless it is strictly necessary – so as not to create traffic which would further slow down the work of the rescuers.

As regards the situation of the viability on the roads, Anas informs that between the provinces of Perugia and Ascoli Piceno the state road 685 "of the Tre Valli Umbre" is closed in the section between Norcia (PG) and Arquata del Tronto (AP) due to damage to the road structure found near a viaduct and at various points along the route. In the next few hours, the reopening of only the section between Norcia and the junction for Castelluccio, already passable by emergency vehicles, is expected.

On the Umbrian side the same road is closed between Serravalle and Borgo Cerreto (PG) due to damage found in a tunnel. In the intermediate section between Norcia and Serravalle, emergency vehicles and residents are allowed to transit. Anas technicians and staff are on site for technical checks.

In the province of Rieti, on the state road 4 "Via Salaria" traffic is allowed with caution to cars and light vehicles, while the transit of heavy vehicles is forbidden. In any case, it is recommended not to take the road unless strictly necessary, in order to facilitate the transit of emergency vehicles to and from Amatrice. The viaducts are constantly monitored and manned by Anas personnel.

In Abruzzo, the state road 260 "Picente" it is regularly passable up to the border with Lazio (Astral competence). To reach Amatrice, the following alternative routes are recommended: from the SS260 in Montereale, ex SS471 “Ville di Fano”, Borbona, Posta, Bacugno, Torrita, Bivio ex SS260; from the SS80, in Porcinaro, ex SS577 along the lake of Campotosto, Poggio Cancelli, Amatrice; from the SS260 locality Aringo, provincial road to Poggio Cancelli, ex SS577.

No damage was found on the new state roads 318 “di Valfabbrica” (Perugia-Ancona route) e 77 “of the Val di Chienti” (direction Foligno-Civitanova Marche), within the "Quadrilatero Marche-Umbria" system.

TRAINS: REGULAR RAILWAY CIRCULATION
