“The European Solidarity Fund will guarantee Italy 1,2 billion euros to cover the damage caused by the earthquakes” in central Italy.
This was the announcement made today by the European commissioner for regional affairs, Corina Cretu, during a press conference convened to present the measure. "It is the highest allocation that the Commission has ever proposed since the creation of the fund", underlined Cretu, who addressed the journalists in Italian.
The money, underlined the commissioner, will also be used for the reconstruction of the Basilica of San Benedetto in Norcia.
