Central Italy earthquakes: 1,2 billion from the EU

This is the largest contribution ever granted by Brussels under the Fund created to help states affected by natural disasters.

The European Union has transferred 1,2 billion euros to Italy to be allocated to the areas of Central Italy affected by the 2016 earthquakes. This is the largest contribution ever granted by Brussels under the Fund created to help the affected by natural disasters.

In fact, the resources come from the Solidarity Fund (FSUE) approved on 13 September by the European Parliament. Its activation had been requested by Italy to deal with the damage caused by the three terrible tremors that hit central Italy on 24 August, 26 and 30 October 2016 and 18 January 2017, for a total of around 22 billion.

The probes will be used for direct damages and for the costs of the first emergency in the territories concerned, covering the expenses incurred for the various assistance measures for the population left homeless.
