Earth-Space Station via Facebook: today the first connection

At 18.55 Italian time on June 1, the first connection between the Earth and the Space Station via Facebook will take place. To connect with the three astronauts will be the founder of the popular social network Mark Zuckerberg who will talk with the crew for about 20 minutes.

The link will be broadcast live on NASA's Facebook page.

Tim Kopra and Jeff Williams of NASA and Tim Peake of the European Space Agency (ESA), currently engaged in the Orbital Station, will be the three astronauts who will speak with Zuckerberg. The latter will ask the three questions sent by users on the NASA Facebook page.

The Earth - Space "chat" via social networks represents yet another step forward in technology. It should be emphasized, however, that it is not the first time that astronauts have used social networks from space. In 2010, the Italian astronaut Paolo Nespoli “cleared” fashion during the “Mglsstra” mission. The use of social media has continued with Youtube and now it's the turn of Facebook. Do not forget the splendid images published by the Italians Luca Parmitano and Samantha Cristoforetti during their missions. But this time there will be an exceptional protagonist: the former "boy prodigy" Mark Zuckerberg.
