Terna: record sustainability in 2015

President Bastioli: “In some cases, better performance than ever” – Direct CO2 emissions decreased by 14% and carbon intensity (CO2 emissions compared to revenues) decreased by 8,5%.

In the course of 2015 Terna it has achieved environmental and social results which, in some cases, are the best ever. Among these, the incidence of SF6 leaks – a gas with a very powerful greenhouse effect used as an insulating medium inside some electrical equipment – ​​on the total installed, which dropped to 0,44% (0,55% in 2014), its all-time low; direct CO2 emissions decreased by 14% (66.799,4 equivalent tonnes; they were 77.361 in 2014) and carbon intensity (CO2 emissions compared to revenues) decreased by 8,5%. This is what emerges from the sustainability report of the company that owns the national electricity transmission grid.

The percentage of waste recycled has risen to 92% (81% in 2014). In the social sphere, the hours of training per capita reached their historical ceiling with 56 hours (43 in 2014), reaching 97% of employees, testifying to Terna's attention to continuous training. The data relating to health and safety was also positive which, in addition to the absence of fatal accidents, show a consolidated improvement trend resulting from intense training and information on the subject, together with the constant supervisory activity which forms the basis of the system which has obtained and maintained, since 2007, the OHSAS 18001 certification.
