Terna focuses on Valtellina: 240 million for the electricity grid

The rationalization project of the power grid in Valtellina of Terna. The company that manages the national electricity grid will invest approximately 240 million euros for the infrastructural development of eight municipalities in the province of Sondrio. Once completed, the interventions will make it possible to demolish over 34 km of existing overhead power lines, for a total of 100 pylons and 137 hectares freed up.

This is a series of interventions which envisage the construction of new 380 kV electrical stations, 13,5 km of new 380 kV cable lines; 2,8 km of new 220, 150 and 132 kV cable connections and 4,2 km of overhead connections to the new electrical substations.

This planning can now become reality following the launch, by the Ministry of Ecological Transition, of the authorization process of the project which will specifically affect the Municipalities of Grosio, Grosotto, Mazzo di Valtellina, Tovo di Sant'Agata, Tirano , Villa di Tirano, Lovero and Sernio, and the publication by Terna of the notice with the particles of the areas potentially affected by the intervention.

The reorganization plan falls within the framework of the Program agreement signed in 2003 by Terna with all the local authorities involved which envisaged, downstream of the construction of the San Fiorano-Robbia power line, the rationalization of the national transmission grid in Valtellina and Val Camonica .

At regional level, the group led by Stefano Donnarumma manages over 8 thousand kilometers of high and very high voltage lines and 134 electricity stations. In the context of business plan 2021-2025 "Driving Energy" worth around 9 billion, Terna will invest over 520 million euros in Lombardy for the development and resilience of the regional electricity grid, according to the energy transition in which the company is a protagonist. The activities will involve over 120 companies and around 600 workers.

The intervention will make it possible to increase the mesh and consequently the efficiency of the electricity grid in the area, also favoring the integration of the energy produced by the current hydroelectric plants. There are also many advantages at an environmental and landscape level: thanks to the vast plan to reorganize the high voltage grid, the impact of the existing electricity infrastructure on the territory will decrease.
