Terna: hotter November, falling electricity consumption

In November we used less electricity. This was stated by Terna, according to which electricity demand fell by 1,4% last month compared to November 2017, settling at 26,3 billion kWh.

The cause of the decrease was the "heat". In fact, in November, on equal working days (21), the monthly mean temperature was almost two degrees Celsius higher compared to the same month of the previous year. Hotter, therefore less heating.

The seasonally adjusted figure, corrected for temperature and with the same calendar, leads to a change in electricity demand in November equal to -0,7%.

As regards 2018, from January to November, the demand for electricity amounted to 295,3 billion kWh, up by 0,6% compared to the eleven months of 2017. In adjusted terms, the change is positive by 0,5 .XNUMX%.

Territorially, the change was negative in all areas of the country: -1,7% in the North and -1% in both the Center and the South.

Terna also explains that, in November, 90,6% of the demand for electricity was met with national production and the remainder (9,4%) with the balance of electricity exchanged with foreign countries. Going into details, net national production (23,9 billion kWh) decreased by 1,1% compared to November 2017. Strong growth in the source of water production (+118,8%) more than doubled from November last year; other sources were down (thermal -12,9%; wind -10,2%; photovoltaic -7,1%; geothermal -2,7%).
