Terna improves the statistics on national electricity consumption

Electricity consumption even more precise, updated and detailed: after a year of work and in close collaboration with all the electricity distributors, Terna has completed the new classification of Italian electricity consumption, compliant with that adopted by Istat and with that defined in the European context.

The data on national electricity consumption published by Terna is broken down by economic activity and with details by Province. The novelty is that the reclassification of the data was done by associating the new product code ATECO2007 with respect to the previous Atecue95 to the customers of the distributors.

Now in practice, Terna will be able to publish the country's electricity consumption "with even greater detail and precision than in the past, thanks to the identification of 750 product codes compared to the 125 of the previous classification", states the company's press release which manages the national electricity transmission grid. The new physiognomy adopted by Terna will make it possible to "unpack" data that was previously aggregated. And so, for the sector Industry the class is present Pharmaceutical (previously featured in the industry Chemical industry), Print (was in the mapping) to Waste cycle (was in the Tertiary); as far as the sector is concerned Services (Eg Tertiary) classes are present Health e Education.

In this way, national electricity consumption becomes more easily comparable with international consumption. Given the new classification, the comparison of data with previous years is only possible for macro-sectors AgricultureIndustryServices e Domestic and in an incomplete way as some activities in the new classification have changed sector, therefore this has led to a necessary interruption of the historical series.

Given the complexity of the project and in particular the exceptional nature of the period in which it was developed, the values published on the site https://www.terna.it/it/sistema-elettrico/statistiche may be subject to changes as the data quality verification activity will continue, concludes Terna's press release.
