Terna invests 300 million for the Sicilian electricity grid

Construction of the 380 kV “Chiaramonte Gulfi – Ciminna” power line is underway. The Minister of Ecological Transition has authorized the 172 km high-voltage connection for which Terna will invest around 300 million euros which will make it possible to improve the quality of power grid of the Island, favoring the production from renewables. The connection is part of the 2021 development plan worth over 18 billion euros.

In particular, the link will cross six provinces and unite the area of Ragusa to that of Palermo, crossing 6 provinces (Agrigento, Caltanissetta, Catania, Enna, Palermo and Ragusa) for a total of 24 Municipalities.

The work - reads a note - will help create better conditions for the electricity market and will further increase the safety of the electricity grid, with a consequent increase in the quality and continuity of the supply.

La design phase execution will start at the beginning of 2022 and, subsequently, the opening of the construction sites is expected, which will be completed in about two years. Once the connection has been completed, which will involve 60 companies and 450 workers, the company that manages the national electricity grid will decommission around 20 kilometers of electricity lines in densely populated areas of environmental and cultural value, for a total of around 60 hectares of land freed up from old infrastructure.

As part of the 2021-2025 "Driving Energy" business plan, Terna will invest over 1,7 billion euros in Sicily for the development and resilience of the regional electricity grid. The planned intervention plan will involve a total of over 500 companies and 2 workers and technicians.
