Donnarumma: Italy Energy hub to get out of the emergency

“Italy must be at the centre, not only geographically, of the world energy situation. If in times of peace it is not a problem, in times of war civil society, families, businesses suffer from rising prices and this situation will continue to afflict us, except for the measures adopted by the Government. The country must plan its own way out of these critical situations”. L'Terna's CEO, Stefano Donnarumma underlines how “Eni and Snam are implementing various diversification solutions but the electricity infrastructure network remains the fundamental vector. Ours is one of the most important networks in Europe. Terna has planned investments of 10 billion in 5 years and 20 in the next 10 years to guarantee the connection of the country and international interconnections to guarantee those flows to guarantee independence for the country. The future of Italy is to be an energy hub”.

Tunisian Link: soon the EU will approve the electricity connection between Italy and Tunisia

"We believe that the EU could also approve the connection with North Africa shortly and this would open up a very important scenario in the North-South direction", added the CEO of Terna, Stefano Donnarumma, in his speech at the University of Salerno to present the start of the master in the context of Tyrrhenian Lab. Terna's project provides for an electricity connection between Italy and Tunisia through an underground cable to connect the two shores of the Mediterranean.

“For Tunisia, this is the part of the financing that concerns the European community and we should know something within days. However we are optimistic because this is an important link for the Mediterranean area”. Then answering some questions from journalists, in particular on the possible involvement of other partners such as France or Germany in the project, Terna's CEO replied that "as far as this connection is concerned, Italy and Tunisia participate in it with the coverage of European funds and I believe , consequently, is not shared with other countries even if when it comes to electrical connections, and therefore closure of the connection ring, all countries are interested”. To those who point out that the Prime Minister, Giorgia Meloni, has also underlined the importance of the connection with North Africa (already baptized Tunisian Link), Donnarumma replies: "I believe it is really very important also because the distances between our Southern Italy and North Africa are limited in terms of kilometres, while the opportunities are really many and I believe it will be the first of a possible series of connections with the Mediterranean areas".

Il electricity connection between Italy and Tunisia will connect the electrical substation of partanna (in the province of Trapani) with a corresponding station, in the Tunisian peninsula of Chief Bona submarine cable through the Strait of Sicily. The entry into operation is scheduled for mid-2028.
