Terna in Veneto: agreement on electricity grid safety and efficiency

The Veneto Region and Terna agree on the security of the electricity system. The Governor, Luca Zaia, and the CEO of the company, Luigi Ferraris have signed an agreement which provides for the implementation of extraordinary interventions aimed at improving and developing the safety of the electricity grid, while simultaneously promoting the sustainable development of the Region.

The agreement also provides for the economic and social revitalization of the areas affected by the exceptional atmospheric events of November 2018 through the reconstruction and development of regional electricity infrastructures.

Several investments are planned. A commitment of approximately 380 million euro has been established for the construction of the underground cable at 400 kV Dolo – Camin and between Venice and Padua alone.

Going into details, we can then see the reorganization of the electricity grid of the Media Valle del Piave, with the introduction, for the future 220 kV “Polpet – Scorzè” line, of the technology of the underground cable from the new Polpet station until before crossing of the Piave river. The agreement also includes a project of the Volpago electrical station and the rationalization of the existing network, and the reorganization of the electricity network in the Alto Belluno area.

“Terna undertakes to carry out renewal works on the existing regional electricity grid aimed at increase stability and security of the energy transmission service as well as the resilience of infrastructures to exceptional climatic events”, reads the company's press release.

The project will then be studied and developed "Green corridors“, the first large-scale experience in Italy and in Europe, which involves the creation of ecological corridors along the routes of existing power lines in wooded areas through the selective planting of native plant essences with controlled regrowth

“Finally, Terna is committed to the opening and expansion of centers of technological excellence in the Veneto region and enter into agreements with universities to promote studies and research to better direct future choices in the construction of electricity infrastructures”.

“We are very pleased to have signed this ambitious program agreement - declared Luigi Ferraris, Terna's CEO - which is part of the investment context aimed at the country's structural growth by enhancing local realities. The package of interventions that Terna undertakes to carry out, in close collaboration with the Veneto Region, is the result of a dialogue approach with the territory it represents today, together with the sustainability of the works and attention to the environment and the territories, an essential value in Terna's strategy”.
