Terna: electricity, consumption down in January

The decrease is 1,1%, at the same temperature and calendar, compared to the same month of the previous year – 26,4% of the 2015 billion kWh required in January 46,0 are distributed in the North, 29,5% in the Center and 24,5% in the South – There was a decrease in all geographical areas.

In January 2015, the demand for electricity in Italy decreased by 1,1%, at the same temperature and calendar, compared to the same month of the previous year. Considering that January 2015 had one working day less (20 vs 21), in addition to the coincidence of two bank holidays at the beginning of the year, but a temperature lower by about one degree Celsius compared to January 2014, the request for 26,4 billion kWh corresponds to a decrease of 2,0%.

Of the 26,4 billion kWh required in January 2015, 46,0% is distributed in the North, 29,5% in the Center and 24,5% in the South. At a territorial level, the demand for energy electricity in January 2015 was down everywhere: -2,7% in the North, -1,5% in the Center and -0,8% in the South. In January 2015, the demand for electricity was met for 82,0% with national production and for the remaining portion (18,0%) from the balance of energy exchanged with foreign countries. In detail, net national production (21,8 billion kWh) fell by 4,9% compared to January 2014.

Geothermal (+7,8%), wind (+13,5%) and photovoltaic (+44,9%) sources of production are growing. Thermal sources (-4,7%) and hydroelectric sources (-23,9%) are down. In quarterly terms, the seasonally adjusted change in electricity demand in January 2015 compared to the previous month was +0,1%. The trend profile remains decreasing.
