The demand for electricity in Italy fell in March 2013, down by 2,4% on an annual basis, to 27,0 billion kWh, while the figure excluding temperature and calendar effects, registers a decrease of 1,8%. Against a similar average monthly temperature, this year there was in fact one working day less.
Of the 27,0 billion kWh required in March 2013, 46,9% is distributed in the North, 29,6% in the Center and 23,5% in the South. At a territorial level, the change in demand of electricity was differentiated throughout the country: -1,0% in the North, -2,2% in the Center and -5,5% in the South.
86,4% of the electricity demand was satisfied through national production, while the remaining share (13,6%) through the balance of energy exchanged with foreign countries. Net national production (23,5 billion kWh) increased by 1,1% on an annual basis. Hydro (+59,5%) and wind (+61,5%) sources of production are growing strongly.
In the first quarter of 2013 the demand for electricity decreased by 4% compared to the values of the first quarter of 2012; with the same calendar, the value is -2,8%.
